Buyback Information
DuBois Book Store Buyback Policy
DuBois Book Store buys back textbooks every day we are open.
At the end of both the fall and spring semesters, we typically buy back current editions of titles that have been reordered for use in the upcoming term. DuBois pays up to 54% of the purchase price for titles to be used at the Kent State main campus the following semester. Quantities may be limited on particular titles if we have purchased our estimated need. Current edition books not used at Kent may be sold through DuBois to a used book wholesaler for prices typically 10% to 30% of the original list price. Due to edition changes or lack of a national resale market, some books will not have any resale value regardless of their original purchase price. Occasionally, and under special circumstances, DuBois will take a textbook on consignment, for which you would receive deferred payment.
Please do not purchase your books with the expectation that you will get something back for them at buyback. We are happy when we can buy back your books, but it is unrealistic to expect that we can buy all of them. There is never a guarantee that textbooks purchased by students will be used again by any instructor anywhere in the country. The real value of a book is obtained in using it for a class - if it can be resold when no longer needed, that is a bonus.
Things to remember:
- Bring in everything that came with the book, including but not limited to supplements, workbooks, cd's, dvd's or cassette tapes.
- You do not need your receipt. The books do not need to have been purchased at DuBois. We buy books back regardless of where they were purchased.
- If you are price checking in the store or online, please be advised that the price you are quoted or see online is valid at that moment only and cannot be guaranteed to be in effect when you return.
- We can’t give specific Buyback information over the phone or online. In addition to the previous statement, we also need to see the condition of the book.
- Bring in your Key to Kent card and your KSU ID. You receive a point for every dollar we give you in Buyback (in addition to receiving a point for every dollar you spend on books at the beginning of the semester). When you reach 500 points, you receive $10 off merchandise upstairs in our supply department.
